"On a recent trip to Tel Aviv, our family of 7, ranging in age from 16 to 52, joined Guy on a 90-minute tour of Florentin, an old Tel Aviv neighborhood caught in a battle between the inexorable forces of tradition and gentrification. With a special focus on the political, social, scatological, sexual, and other undefinable, avant garde graffiti that appears throughout the neighborhood, we were able to begin to understand the challenges involved in such a battle. There are synagogues and sex shops; trendy restaurants and heavy industry; wine bars and nightclubs, olive vendors and sandwich shops; art galleries and a place to bring your dog to get a bath. And graffiti everywhere. Florentin is a place that few tourists see. Yet, in its own way, it is as interesting and significant as any place in Israel.
