Guy Sharett teaching Hebrew at the Rothschild Avenue tents, Tel Aviv, Aug 2011. Photo: Adi Dinar.
Everything which happens in the streets can be used to teach Hebrew. During the August 2011 Social Justice protest, I decided to start teaching Hebrew through the slogans and signs which filled the Rothschild Avenue in Tel Aviv. Through the signs we can not only learn new words and work on our grammar, but understand local codes and references.
The tours became an instant hit and new immigrants, foreign journalists and diplomats from all over the world came to read the signs with me. You can listen to one of the walking tours here.

Learning Hebrew through graffiti reading in Florentin, Sep. 2011. Photo by Deborah Sinai.
Other fun stuff tours are in my Tel Aviv neighborhood, Florentin. In this photo you can see me with Avigail, an American based in Israel, during one our graffiti tours-lessons. We decipher together what's written on the walls, not only linguistically, but also culturally. We talk to people of the neighborhood, taste olives and pet dogs, which is the best part.
